Waukegan Public School District 60 is a school district in Illinois that served 16,812 students in 24 schools during the 2012-2013 school year.[1] This district was the tenth-largest by enrollment in the state of Illinois.
About the district
Waukegan Public School District 60 is located in Lake County in northeastern Illinois. The county seat is Waukegan. Lake County was home to 703,910 residents in 2015, according to the United States Census Bureau.[2]
Demographics
Lake County outperformed Illinois as a whole in terms of higher education achievement in the years 2011 to 2015. The United States Census Bureau found that 43.2 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 32.3 percent of all state residents. The median household income for Lake County was $78,026, while it was $57,574 for the entire state. The poverty rate was 9.0 percent for the county, compared to 13.6 percent for the state as a whole.[2]

The superintendent of Waukegan Public School District 60 is Theresa Plascencia. Prior to joining the district, she served as the executive director of high school programs, designs and supports in Chicago Public Schools. She previously served as the chief of network 7 in that district. She also has experience as a principal. Plascencia earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education, history and juvenile justice from DePaul University. She went on to earn a master's degree in education leadership from Loyola University.[3][4]
School board elections
Waukegan Public School District 60 schools are overseen by a seven-member board elected at-large to four-year terms. School board members are not compensated for their services.[5]

Election dates
Members of the Waukegan Public School District 60 School Board are elected to four-year terms. Each election is held on a staggered basis every odd-numbered year. Three seats were up for election in 2015, and six seats were up for election in 2017.
