John C. Brooks (b. January 10, 1937) was a Democratic candidate for North Carolina Commissioner of Labor in the 2012 elections. He finished first in the May 8th primary election but did not win the requisite 40% of the vote to secure the party nomination. Brooks ran for North Carolina Commissioner of Labor in 2012. He faced Marlowe Foster and Ty Richardson in the May 8 Democratic primary. Since no candidate won 40% of the vote, the top two vote getters, Brooks and Foster, went head-to-head in a runoff on July 17.[2] Brooks won that contest and lost to incumbent Cherie Berry, who was unopposed in the Republican primary, in the general election on November 6, 2012.
