Biography
O'Brien served in the United States Marine Corps as a Reconnaissance Marine. After he left active duty, he graduated from college and started his professional life as a management consultant while living in France. He then worked in the real estate and trucking industries until he joined an offshore wind energy company as their Director of Development. During that time, he also served on then-Governor Granholm's Offshore Wind Council. Currently, he works at Herman Miller, where he leads the development and commercialization of new product designs. O'Brien was defeated by incumbent Fred Upton.[3] O'Brien ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing Michigan's 6th District. O'Brien ran unopposed in the August 7 Democratic primary. He faced incumbent Fred Upton (R), Christie Gelineau (L), and Jason Gatties (I) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[4]
