NEW YORK CITY, New York: The September 11 Victims Compensation Fund will begin providing compensation to fifteen victims, including fourteen firefighters. They will get 10% of their individual awards, with further payments over the next several years.[1]
The fund has $2.8 billion dollars and is intended to compensate emergency responders with health issues following the 9/11 attacks. So far 16,000 have registered for the fund, while less than 200 people have completed the necessary paperwork according to Sheila Birnbaum, who is the special master of the fund.[1]
