Alabama ballot access bill folds

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama: HB 142, the proposed bill that would have lowered the independent candidate petition requirements from 3% of voters who participated in the last gubernatorial vote to 1.5%. The Alabama Constitution and Elections Committee defeated the bill by a vote of 6-5.[1]
House of Representatives member Cam Ward was the author of the bill. Ward, according to reports, has stated that he will ask for reconsideration. A lawsuit against the 3% requirement for United States House of Representatives is pending in the 11th circuit.
