Alabama county to start new mental health court
May 12, 2010
Alabama: Probate Judge Patricia Fuhrmeister and a group of residents who are a part of 2010 Leadership Shelby County gave a presentation on the morning of May 12, at the graduation of the 2010 leadership class about the proposed mental health court for Shelby County. The new mental health court aims to provide treatment for criminals with meantal health problems rather than simply sentencing them to prison. The courts services will not, however, be available for those who have committed serious violent crimes. The Shelby County Mental health court is expected to be up and running by the end of 2010 and will be the sixth such court in the state.[1]
