Three of the five seats on the Perris Union High School District board of trustees were up for by-district general election on November 8, 2016. Trustee Area 2 incumbent Joan Donnelson Cooley and Trustee Area 4 incumbent Edward Agundez did not file to run for re-election, leaving the seats open for two newcomers. Anthony Stafford was the only candidate to run for the Trustee Area 2 seat, so the race was canceled. He won the seat by default. The Trustee Area 3 race was also canceled due to lack of opposition. Incumbent David Nelissen, the only candidate to file, was re-elected by default. The race for the open Trustee Area 4 seat featured candidates Barry Busch and Edward Garcia Jr., and Garcia won.[1][2]
