Basil L. Merenda (born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) was the Democratic Pennsylvania Secretary of State in 2010. He first served as acting secretary following the sudden resignation of Pedro A. Cortés, who left to become executive vice president of "Everyone Counts," a company that specializes in military and overseas voting technology. Following his nomination by Democratic Governor Ed Rendell, Merenda was then officially named as the new Secretary of the Commonwealth on Thursday, June 3, 2010.[1]
