The Birchwood School District Referendum was a school bond measure on the April 7 ballot in the Birchwood School District which is in Washburn County. The referendum was brought to the ballot by the school board, and it sought to exceed state-set revenue limits by $295,000 per year for two years, totaling $590,000 overall. The additional funds would be used to maintain current levels of operations and replace outdated equipment.

Defeated, with 360 "yes" votes and 386 "no" votes.[1]
Wording of referendum
Be it resolved by the School Board of the School District of Birchwood, Washburn, Sawyer, Barron and Rusk Counties, Wisconsin, that for the purpose of replacing outdated computers, having adequate technology support, keeping instructional materials current, funding building maintenance needs and to keep high quality educational programs, the final school district budgets for the 2009-10 through 2010-11 school years shall include, on a nonrecurring basis, an amount of $295,000 in excess of the revenue limits imposed by Section 121.91(2m) of the Wisconsin Statutes[1]
