The Black River Falls School District Referendum was a school bond measure on the June 9 ballot in the Black River Falls School District which is in Jackson County. The referendum was brought to the ballot by the school board, and it sought to issue debt in the amount of $25,279,225. The funds would have been used to build a new elementary school, new district offices and to remodel the Forrest Street Elementary School.
There was some dissension from the school board as to whether or not the measure should have been presented as three separate questions - one for the new school construction, one for the district office construction, and one for the remodeling - but in the end the vote went 6-1 for combining the questions into one large measure.[1]
The measure also called for the closing of the Third Street and Gebhardt elementary schools.[1]
Status
The referendum was defeated.[2]
Tax impact
The tax increase if this measure passed is estimated at an additional $100 per year for a $100,000 property.[3]
