Bridgewater will not seek re-election
June 11, 2010
Washington: C.C. Bridgewater, Presiding Chief Judge of the Washington Court of Appeals, will not seek re-election at the end of his term this year, due to illness. He has served on this court since 1994.
Jill Johanson, a Superior Court judge who used to work under Judge Bridgewater in the Cowlitz County Prosecutor's Office during the early '90s, has filed for election to her former mentor's position. She claimed that, "I was told many times this week that Judge Bridgewater thought I was the ‘right person’ for this position, and I was encouraged to run repeatedly."
Joseph Daggy also filed for the position. He is a private practice lawyer with little judicial experience, but he believed that someone should challenge Johanson for the position. He said, "What motivated me to file was the appearance that Mr. Bridgewater was passing the position to another candidate without it being public and without it going through the political process in any other way."
The election will be held on November 2, 2010.[1]
