Indianapolis, Indiana: Indianapolis law firm Cohen & Malad has filed a class action lawsuit against the State of Indiana and other involved parties for the stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair on August 15, 2011, which has resulted in seven deaths and dozens of injuries.[1][2] The incident made national news and has sparked questions about the safety and inspection of outdoor concert stages.[3][4][5] The lawsuit was filed in Marion County and will next go before Superior Court judge Theodore M. Sosin for certification.
On August 23, 2011, LaPorte County judge Thomas Alevizos ordered the State of Indiana to preserve the wreckage of the stage collapse.[6] An investigation has been initiated by the Indiana State Fair Commission, and on August 24, 2011 a website was launched to keep the public appraised of the progress.[7]
