Diane Kiesel is an acting justice of the Bronx County Supreme Court, Criminal Term in the 12th Judicial District of New York. She also serves on the Civil Term. She was appointed to this position in 2004 and has also served as a judge of the New York City Criminal Court since 1999.[1][2][3]

Biography and Education

Kiesel received her B.A. degree from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey in 1975 and her M.A. degree from The American University in 1978. Prior to receiving her law degree, sh worked as a Reporter for The Hunterdon County Democrat (1976), The Woodbridge News Tribune (1976-77), Copley Newspapers (1978-82) and was a writer and editor for The City Desk Inc. (1982-83). She then received her J.D. degree from the Catholic University of America in 1985.[1]

Career

Kiesel began her career in 1985 as a law clerk for Judges James Miller and Frederic Smalkin of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. She then became an associate of the law firm of Cahill Gordon and Reindel in 1987. Two years later, she became an Assistant District Attorney of New York County. He worked in this capacity until her judicial appointment in 1999. Since 1992, she has also served as an adjunct professor at the New York Law School.

Kiesel was appointed to the New York City Criminal Court in 1999 and was reappointed in 2009. Since 2004, she has served as an Acting Supreme Court Justice.[1]
