The office of Alderman is influential in managing the growth of the city, proposing changes that coincide with major economic and technological advances, carrying the concerns and suggestions of constituents to the board, and sharing information with the constituents. The ability to see and talk to the Aldermen on a daily basis in the city, at the park, or grocery store allows interaction and input that constituents of higher office positions seldomly receive.

I believe the public has a right to provide input on every fiscal budget to include department requests, 5 year plans, debt and debt service, and proposed tax rates. I believe the public has the right to view the approved budget and any adjustments to the budget. I believe in annual audits of financials and public disclosure of the results of the audit.

One Minute Manager. It was my first management book given to my by a mentor, Anne Ganakas, when I was manager at Arby's. Its simple lessons have stuck with me throughout my career.
