Meningitis outbreak
Lovelace fell suddenly ill and died during the meningitis outbreak in late summer and early fall of 2012.[2][3] Lovelace became ill in mid-September, following the injection of pain medication that was part of a tainted batch of drugs from a specialty Massachusetts pharmacy. On September 27, days after the injection, Lovelace succumbed to bacterial meningitis.[2] Lovelace had received injections due to neck pain following a March 2012 car accident.[2]
