I am a volunteer, just trying to help where I can.
I'm a US Navy Veteran, a husband, father, a cancer survivor, and a Battling Bather.
- I am a practical problem solver who believes compromise and incremental change is how you can quietly make things better.
- I actively try to keep you informed of what's happening and why.
- I keep partisan politics at arms length. I'm not going to pretend it isn't real, but I'm not getting involved.
Collaboration and engagement. Partnering with community organizations, other levels of government, and the public at large can help us all achieve more.
Meaningful improvement isn't light work, but many hands make lighter work.
Student Producer at Macomb Cable Network. 3 years.
The Challenger explosion. 5 or 6.
There are 3 parts to involving residents. Education, involvement, and representation.
As a City Commissioner it's our job to make sure the residents have the info they need, whether it's through the newsletter, social media, or community meetings...
I have continually been trying to get more residents involved... Volunteer, attend, or join a committee. (More info on our boards and committees is available at MountClemens.gov).
We need to listen to the residents and make what we view as the best choice for the long term success of Mount Clemens. I must be particularly conscious of that in those times when the unpopular choice is still what I think is best, and then take the time to explain that choice.
Mount Clemens has been able to secure some funding from both the legislature and grants to help. I'd like to continue with that.
The City staff does a good job at finding projects where we can save money by doing two things at once, and I'll of course keep encouraging that too.
Since our law enforcement is contracted through Clinton Township, it's mostly about ensuring the contract is meeting our needs.
On the Fire Department side, ensuring our folks have good equipment and view Mount Clemens as a great place to work seems a recipe for success.
The core of downtown is steadily coming back. We've got many of our old businesses still around, and new ones gladly setting up shop. We are going to have a lot more residents in downtown once the apartments across Gratiot and at the old Victory Inn site open up. We also are going to be doing a big overhaul of the Cherry Street Mall area thanks to some grants and funding from the State.
I'd like to see a little more variety of shops in the downtown, but I suspect that will come naturally as more folks move in.
Perhaps we need to start expanding what area we consider to be "downtown".

I was not in office when it all went down, but the choice to allow virtual attendance at the meetings seemed sensible.
No need to reinvent the wheel on this. There is already a periodic review of our plans and ordinances. As long as we are seeking feedback from the residents and businesses to factor in, it seems to be working.

No. I wasn't a City Commissioner when the pandemic hit.
Already have a policy in place, and I don't think I've heard any issues with it.
We are seeking periodic reports from the Clinton Township Police Department in addition to the emailed list of incidents.
I haven't noticed any particular trends in the City yet.
It is as close to direct representation as you get. Individual voters aren't just anecdotes but a significant part of the electorate.
Sure. It's certainly not required, but it isn't going to hurt.
Being able to take a lot of input from different people and use that in forming your own decision.
The ability to read through fairly boring documents and pull out the important bits is a good but possibly underappreciated skill.
To do what's best for the long term success for Mount Clemens and it's residents.
I am practical and stubborn. Compromise when it makes sense and stick to my guns when needed.
Also, I am pretty good at not getting spun up over things.
What did the bran muffin say to the blueberry muffin in the oven?
Oh my gosh! A talking muffin!
