Chris Christie announced his bid for the presidency this morning at Livingston High School, from which he graduated in 1980. He explained his choice of location at the beginning of his announcement speech: "When I decided to make this announcement there wasn't any chance, I had to come home and Livingston is home."[1]
Christie is the 55th and current governor of New Jersey. Christie was first elected to the office in 2009 and is currently serving his second term. Christie previously served as the U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey. He was appointed by President George W. Bush in 2001 and served through 2008.[1]
