Rhode Island: Governor Lincoln Chafee is set to make his first judicial appointments for two vacancies on the Rhode Island Family Court. Chafee's budget was passed by the House Finance Committee and included enough funds to fill the vacancies. Chafee was concerned that because of the state's budget crisis the seats might not get adequate funding, and he still intends to make sure the appointments need to be filled before proceeding forward. The Governor has 21 days after receiving a list of finalists to make an appointment, but past Governors such as Donald Carcieri have waited as long as a year to make an appointment.[1]
