The Judicial Update

August 6th, 2012

St. Paul, Minnesota: Governor Mark Dayton will be conducting interviews of Judges Tanya Bransford, Margaret Chutich, Wilhelmina Wright and former United States Attorney David Lillehaug. Recommended by a judicial selection panel, one of these nominees will be appointed to fill the vacancy on the Minnesota Supreme Court created by Justice Helen Meyer's retirement.[1]

Justice Meyer's retirement from the seven-member court leaves Chief Justice Lorie Gildea as the only woman on the Minnesota Supreme Court.[1]

Judge Tanya Bransford is a Hennepin County judge, while Judge Margaret Chutich and Judge Wilhelmina Wright preside on the Minnesota Court of Appeals. David Lillehaug, during Minnesota's state government shutdown in 2011, served as Governor Mark Dayton's special counsel and representation in the 2010 election recount.[1]

This will be Governor Dayton's first appointment to the Minnesota Supreme Court.[1]
