Indiana Supreme Court names agency directors
June 30, 2011
Indiana: Earlier this month, the Indiana Supreme Court announced the appointment of two directors for state agencies. Bradley W. Skolnik will head the State Board of Law Examiners and Stephen T. Owens will serve as the State Public Defender.
Skolnik is currently a partner in an Indianapolis law firm. He has also served as Indiana Securities Commissioner and as President of the North American Securities Administration Association. Chief Justice Randall Shepard said, "It is a coup for us to bring Brad Skolnik back to state government. Having his management and investigatory skills at work in the judicial branch will allow us to continue ensuring the legal profession embraces the highest standards."[1]
Owens has served as a Deputy State Public Defender since 1986. Of his appointment, Shepard said, "Stephen Owens’ two decade career in the State Public Defender’s Office says it all. His promotion comes after years of advocating for clients without means and helping run an office tasked with a huge responsibility—ensuring basic fairness."[1]
