James Gion is a judge on the Southwest Judicial District Court of North Dakota. Gion was appointed by Governor Jack Dalrymple on November 10, 2015, and will join the court in January 2016.[1]

Gion earned his bachelor's degree from the University of North Dakota. He earned his J.D. from the University of North Dakota School of Law.[2]
Career
Gion was an attorney in private practice from 1982 until his appointment to the North Dakota Southwest Judicial District Court. He also served as Hettinger County Attorney from 1991 to 2015, and as Slope County State's Attorney from 2012 to 2015. Gion has also served as state's attorney for Bowman and Grant Counties, and as Regent's City Attorney.[1]
