The August 26, 2014, general election in Hernando County featured three seats up for election. District 1 incumbent John K. Sweeney faced a challenge from newcomers Mark Johnson and Donald Whiting. Beth Narverud and Jay Rowden were running to replace Dianne Bonfield, who did not file for re-election in District 3. The District 5 race featured incumbent Cynthia Moore and challengers Anna Liisa Covell, Susan Duval and Robert Neuhausen.

The general election determines if candidates for each seat could garner a majority of the vote total. If no candidate received more than 50 percent of the general election votes in a particular district, the top two vote recipients advanced to the runoff election on November 4, 2014.
