Selection method

Judges of the Oregon Supreme Court, Oregon Court of Appeals and Oregon Circuit Courts are all selected in an identical manner. They are chosen in nonpartisan elections to serve six-year terms, after which they must run for re-election if they wish to continue serving.[1]

The chief judges of the circuit courts are appointed by the chief justice of the state supreme court to serve a two-year term.[1]

Qualifications
To serve on the circuit court, a judge must be:[1]

  • a U.S. citizen;
  • a state resident for at least three years;
  • a resident of his or her circuit for at least one year;
  • a state bar member; and
  • under the age of 75.

Wolf was elected in 2010 after running unopposed. He won with 97.87% of the vote.[2]

Education

John Wolf received his B.S. from Oregon State University in 1992 and his J.D. from Willamette University in 1995.[3]

Career

Wolf started practicing as a private attorney in 1995 in the counties within the 7th District. He has also, since 1993, served as Municipal Court Judge Pro Tem in The Dalles Municipal Court.

He has also served on the Family Law Advisory Committee of the 7th Judicial District.
