Maryland: Judge Diane O. Leasure plans to retire from the Maryland Fifth Circuit Court in Howard County at the end of her 15-year term in November 2011. The 58-year-old judge, explained, "I figured that I'm going to be not quite 60, and that's usually when people start thinking about retirement...I just thought I'm going to run or I'm not going to run. I didn't think it would be appropriate or fair to maybe go through the primary election and then decide to leave right before the general election." She has served on the Fifth Circuit Court since her initial appointment by Gov. Glendening in November of 1995. After retirement, she will continue to work at the University of Maryland Law School, where she has been an adjunct professor for four years. She will serve there as a senior judicial fellow and lecturer. She is also seeking to work as a recall judge throughout Maryland and as a private mediator and arbitrator. Although she is retiring from the court, Judge Leasure explained that she plans to continue to work "pretty much full time". Her successor on the court will be appointed later this year.[1]
