Georgia: Last Friday, Judge Douglas Pullen announced that he will step down from the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit Superior Court before the end of his current term. He has served on the court since 1995.[1]

There is speculation that the retirement is connected in some way to the investigation of the district by a state district attorney and the Judicial Qualifications Commission.[2] The retiring judge denies this, giving the reasons of a surgery last year and his age (66). Also, colleagues have defended his announcement, reminding the public that he has been discussing it for some time.[1]

Pullen has not yet shared the exact date of his retirement, but his current term expires in January 2013. His seat will be contestable in the 2012 election as well.
