Laura Taylor is a judge on the United States bankruptcy court, Southern District of California. She was appointed to the court on January 10, 2008, and reappointed to a second term on November 17, 2021. She served as chief judge from October 2012 to September 2019. Taylor's current term will expire on January 9, 2036.[1][2][3]

Education

Judge Taylor earned her bachelor's degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her J.D. from Duke University.[4]

Career

Judge Taylor began her career in 1983 as an associate practicing in the Finance and Bankruptcy Group at Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP. In 1995, she left the firm and founded the Special Education Project of the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program. She practiced pro bono for a period of three years before returning to the firm, where she served as a partner from 1998 until shortly before she was appointed as a judge.

In late 2012, at the same time Judge Taylor was elevated to the position of Chief Judge, she was appointed for a seven-year term on the Ninth Circuit's Bankruptcy Appellate Panel.[5]
