Maine Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense Fund (TC) was a ballot question committee that sought to place Maine's Background Checks for Gun Sales initiative on the November 8, 2016 ballot. The group also raised money in support of the measure.[1]
Background
Maine Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense Fund was established in 2015 as a part of the Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense In America and Everytown for Gun Safety campaigns, which supported enacting gun laws.[2][3] The treasurer was Kathleen McInerney. The main purpose of the organization was to help get Maine's Background Checks for Gun Sales initiative on the ballot for November 8, 2016. The measure qualified for the ballot but was defeated by voters.[4]
In June 2016, Maine Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense and Mainers for Responsible Gun Ownership merged together, retaining the name Mainers for Responsible Gun Ownership.[5]

In August 2015, Maine Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense Fund submitted an application and the proposed language of the background check for gun sales measure to the Maine secretary of state.[6] The group submitted 85,000 signatures in January 2016, and Maine Background Checks for Gun Sales, Question 3 appeared on the November 2016 ballot, where it was defeated.[4]
