Maine lawmaker proposes voter ID bill

AUGUSTA, Maine: A state lawmaker in Maine has introduced a bill to require photo identification before any registered voter can go the polls.

State Representative Rich Cebra (R-Naples) is sponsoring a bill that would make Maine the ninth state in the nation to require voters to show photo identification at the polling place. Maine currently requires voters to show identification only for registration. Cebra told WMTW-TV that the legislation is in response to increased voting fraud in other states during the 2008 election.
