This measure sought to add to the current property tax by a rate of $.25 per $100 of assessed value in order to further pay for general city needs.[2]

The question on the ballot:

Shall the City of New Melle be authorized to impose an additional tax of twenty-five cents per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation on all real, personal and other tangible property beginning in the 2012 tax year?[3]
