Obama appoints six to district court, one to appellate court

Washington D.C.: On May 4, 2011, President Obama sent seven new nominations to the Senate covering one appellate vacancy and six district court vacancies covering five separate courts.

Second Circuit


Obama nominated Christopher Droney to the United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit.[1] Droney is currently a judge on the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut, a position he has held since 1997. He earned his bachelor's at the College of the Holy Cross and his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law. He would fill one of two current vacancies on the court.[2]

District courts

District of Montana

Obama nominated Dana Christensen to the United States District Court for the District of Montana to a seat vacated by Donald Molloy who will assume senior status on August 16, 2011.[1] Christensen is a partner in a private practice law firm in Montana. Christensen received a bachelor's from Stanford University and a J.D. from the University of Montana School of Law.[3]

District of Nebraska

Obama nominated John Gerrard to the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska to a seat vacated by Richard Kopf.[1] Gerrard is currently a judge on the Nebraska Supreme Court, a position he has held since 1995. Gerrard received a bachelor's from Nebraska Wesleyan University and a J.D. from the Pacific McGeorge School of Law.[3]

Northern District of California

Obama nominated Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers to the United States District Court for the Northern District of California to a seat vacated by Vaughn Walker.[1] Rogers is currently a judge on the Superior Court in Alameda County, California, a position he has held since 2008. Rogers received a bachelor's from Princeton University and a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law.[3]

Southern District of Florida

Obama nominated Robert N. Scola, Jr. to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida to a seat vacated by Paul Huck.[1] Scola is currently a judge on Florida’s Eleventh Judicial Circuit, a position he has held since 1995. Scola received a bachelor's from Brown University and a J.D. from the Boston College Law School.[3]

Southern District of New York

Obama nominated Katherine Forrest to the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York to a seat vacated by Jed Rakoff.[1] Forrest is currently a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice, a position she has held since 2010. Forrest received a bachelor's from Wesleyan University and a J.D. from the New York University School of Law.[3]

Obama also nominated Edgardo Ramos to the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York to a seat vacated by Stephen Robinson (New York).[1] Ramos is currently a private practice attorney in New York. He received a bachelor's from Yale College and a J.D. from the Harvard Law.[3][4]
