Putnam County Court restructured
June 9, 2010
Ohio:Gov. Strickland, on June 8, 2010, signed into law House Bill 238, which will change the structure of the Putnam County Court system. It will replace the County Court with a Municipal Court which will be presided over by one full-time judge rather than two part-time judges. These changes were encouraged by the Ohio Supreme Court as part of a court reorganization effort and will take effect on January 1, 2011.[1]
The new bill also affects Montgomery County, replacing the Montgomery County Court with a new Montgomery County Municipal Court which will have a broader geographical jurisdiction than the current municipal court. This change will take effect on July 1, 2010. Also, over the next 11 years, the five current part-time county court judges will be replaced with two full-time municipal court judges.
The bill also changes the status of judges in the Chardon, Lyndhurst and Miamisburg municipal courts from part-time to full-time.[2]
