Richard Spencer

Richard Spencer is a former chief judge of the Crawford County Magistrate Court in Georgia. He was appointed by Governor Nathan Deal on June 14, 2013, replacing Robin Dunaway who had been appointed after elected Chief Magistrate Andrea Peterman was suspended. Spencer ran for election to a full term on the court, but was defeated in the general election on May 24, 2016.[1]
Spencer was a judge from upstate New York. He moved to Georgia two years prior to his appointment to the Crawford County court in 2013.[1]

Judges of the Georgia Magistrate Courts are either elected or appointed to terms of varying lengths.[2] The elections for this court type are contested and may be partisan or nonpartisan. To serve on this court, a judge must be a county resident for at least one year, be 25 years of age, and have a high school diploma or equivalent.[3]
