Scott M. Hadley was a Utah Second Judicial District judge for the Ogden District Court. Hadley was appointed to this position in May 2003 and retired on August 1, 2017.[1][2]

Biography

Hadley earned his B.S. in business administration from Weber State University. He went on to receive his J.D. from Brigham Young University Law School in 1981. Hadley practiced law for Van Cott, Bagley, Cornwall & McCarthy and became court commissioner in 1997. He served in that position until 2003.[1]

Hadley stood for retention election in 2012. On November 6, 2012, Hadley was retained with 82.4 percent of the vote and a total of 143,720 votes.[3][4]

Judicial Performance Evaluation recommendation

The Utah Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission compiled information from attorneys, court staff and jurors about the performance of all judges up for retention in 2012. Judges were evaluated based on five criteria.

A judge must score at least 3 out of 5 in each of these categories to meet the minimum performance standard. 70 attorneys responded to the following questions.

  • Legal Ability: 4.26
  • Communication: 4.28
  • Integrity: 4.57
  • Judicial temperament: 4.48
  • Administrative: 4.58
