Cantillo provided the following statement on her campaign website:

Sharon Cantillo has been a resident of brick for 35 years. In addition to serving as President of the Board of Education for the past three years, she was also chosen by her fellow board members to lead them as their President for her two previous terms. Throughout her years of volunteering on the Board of Education, Sharon has completed extensive training to achieve the rare distinction of the Master Board Member certification.

When she began serving her current term on the Board of Education, Sharon made it a priority to show respect to meeting attendees and to keep the public informed of district information. Some of the ways she did this was by allowing the public to speak for more than just a few timed minutes at meetings, having the meetings televised and archived on the district website, and by including many more presentations about the schools at the monthly public meetings. Having spent many years as a parent volunteer for childrens' educational and sports groups, Sharon knows how important and relevant parent concerns are, and she is always responsive to those concerns. She promptly brings issues to the superintendent, and follows-up with those involved.

Sharon's passion for education and children is evident not only through her dedication to the Board of Education, but through her love of her son, daughter, and grandson. Both her children are graduates of Brick Township High School, and she hopes to contribute to making the Brick Township Schools among the top districts in Ocean County![3]
