September 29th, 2012
Minnesota: Beginning his career on the bench chambered in Sherburne County and now currently chambered in Anoka County, Judge Alan Pendleton has been named as the recipient of the 2012 Minnesota District Judges Association Outstanding Judge Award. Judge Pendleton was recognized for his commitment in improving the judicial system and for his promotion of judicial efficiency.[1]
Before being appointed to the bench in 1999 by Governor Jesse Ventura, Judge Pendleton served as an assistant county attorney in Anoka County. He graduated from Bemidji State University and Drake University Law School.[1]
Judge Alan Pendleton is recognized for his efforts in designing, coordinating, and obtaining funding for the construction of a fully-integrated, electronic courtroom. It was Minnesota's first and incorporated a multi-faceted electronic evidence display system. Over the next several years, Judge Pendleton dedicated many hours to presenting training seminars for the judiciary, attorneys and law enforcement. Furthermore, he conducted public, professional and educational school tours of the e-courtroom.[1]
The author of numerous publications and articles covering topics that range from criminal and trial procedures all the way to evidence and constitutional issues, Judge Pendleton makes efforts to also maintain a bi-weekly judicial training e-mail service. This service, entitled, "Minnesota Judicial Training Updates," is designed to be short, easy-to-read, as well as concise in covering basic issues and tips that every judge and attorney should know.[1]
His email service is in high demand and is distributed to 85% of Minnesota judges, as well as to members of private and public bars, the University of Minnesota law school, and many attorney associations.[1]
