This week's Federal Vacancy Count includes nominations, confirmations and vacancies from November 26, 2014, to December 2, 2014. Nominations, confirmations and vacancies occurring on December 3rd will be reflected in the December 10th report.

There were a couple new vacancies this week as the United States Senate was mostly inactive due to the holiday.

The vacancy warning level remained at blue this week after two new vacancies, no new nominations and no new confirmations. The vacancy percentage rose to 6.6% and the total number of nominees waiting for confirmation remained 31. The number of vacancies of Article III judges rose to 58 out of 874. New vacancies

Middle District of Tennessee

William Haynes

On December 1, 2014, William Haynes assumed senior status on the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee.[1] Haynes was appointed to the court by President Bill Clinton in 1999 and served as chief judge from 2012 until taking senior status. The transition created the only vacancy on the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. The vacancy warning level rose from green to yellow.

Western District of Oklahoma

Stephen Friot

Stephen Friot transitioned to senior status on December 1, 2014.[1] Friot was appointed to the United States District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma in 2001. His transition created the second vacancy on the United States District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma. The vacancy warning level rose from yellow to orange.
