This week's Federal Vacancy Count includes nominations, confirmations and vacancies from February 4, 2015, to February 10, 2015. Nominations, confirmations and vacancies occurring on February 11 will be reflected in the February 18 report.
The past week brought two nominations and one new vacancy as the Senate Judiciary Committee has remained mostly inactive.
The vacancy warning level remained at blue this week after one new vacancy, two new nominations and no new confirmations. The vacancy percentage rose to 5.3 percent, and the total number of nominees waiting for confirmation rose to 13. The number of vacancies of Article III judges rose to 46 out of 874. New vacancies
District of New Jersey
William Martini
On February 10, 2015, William Martini transitioned to senior status on the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.[1] Martini was appointed to the court in 2002 by President George W. Bush. The transition creates the only vacancy on the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. The vacancy warning level rose from green to blue. |

Middle District of Tennessee
Waverly D. Crenshaw Jr.
On February 4, 2015, President Barack Obama nominated Waverly D. Crenshaw Jr. to the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. Crenshaw is currently a partner at the law firm of Waller Lansden Dortch & Dortch, LLP. He clerked for Judge John Nixon of the Middle District of Tennessee from 1982 to 1984. Crenshaw earned his B.A. and J.D. from Vanderbilt University in 1978 and 1981, respectively.[3]
He was appointed to fill the vacancy created by William Haynes. The United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee currently has one vacancy, and the warning level is set at yellow. |

Western District of New York
Lawrence Joseph Vilardo
President Barack Obama nominated Lawrence Joseph Vilardo to the United States District Court for the Western District of New York on February 4, 2015. Vilardo is currently a partner at the law firm of Connors & Vilardo, LLP. He started his career as a law clerk for Judge Irving Goldberg of the Fifth Circuit. Vilardo earned his B.A., graduating summa cum laude, from Canisius College in 1977 and his J.D., graduating magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1980.[3]
If confirmed, Vilardo will fill the vacancy created by Richard Arcara, who took senior status on January 1, 2015. The United States District Court for the Western District of New York currently has one vacancy, and the warning level is set at yellow. |
