Thomas J. Straka

Thomas J. Straka is an associate juvenile judge of District 1A of Iowa. He was appointed to this position in 2006.[1] He was retained in 2014 for a term that expires on December 31, 2020.[2]

Straka was retained to the District 1A Court with 79.7 percent of the vote on November 4, 2014. [2]
Education
Straka received his undergraduate degree in 1991 from the University of Northern Iowa and his J.D. in 1995 from the Creighton University School of Law.[1]
Career
Straka began his legal career as a law clerk for the Sarpy County Juvenile Court. He then worked as an attorney, practicing primarily in the areas of family and criminal law, until he was appointed magistrate of Dubuque County (District 1A) in 2005. He became an associate juvenile judge in 2006. He has also served as the secretary of the Dubuque County Bar Association and is a former president of the Young Lawyers Division.[1]
