Three Idaho veto referenda efforts to turn in signatures to Secretary of State (Updated)

BOISE, Idaho: The process is almost over for supporters of three veto referenda efforts in the state. When contacted by Ballotpedia, the Idaho Secretary of State's office stated that although signatures had not been filed as of 3:30 p.m. MDT, contact was made with the petition organizers, and that signatures would be filed before the close of business.

Although the numbers are unofficial, all signs are pointing to a voters' decision in 2012. All three measures appear to have enough signatures to be placed on the ballot, as the June 1 petition drive deadline passed with a favorable number of validated signatures counted by county clerks across the state.[1]

Once the clerks verified signatures, they are then returned to the supporters. Supporters then had until June 6, 2011 to submit them to the Idaho Secretary of State.

The secretary of state's office also stated that there is no deadline to count signatures and match them with the county clerks' count, however, they would be working with everyone available to complete the process soon.

  • Senate Bill 1108 governs collective bargaining rights dealing with teachers in the state.

Update: Signatures were submitted to the Secretary of State's office, reports confirm, as more than 210,000 verified signatures were submitted. Each referendum needed 47,432 valid signatures, which means the more than 72,000 signatures submitted for each measure is well above the requirements. Official word from the Secretary of State's office is expected soon relating to the status of the referenda's ballot placement.[2]
