Kevin Adams defeated fellow newcomer Willie Kirkland Jr. for the open District 1 seat. The District 4 and District 5 seats were originally set to be on the ballot, but when District 4 incumbent Patty Hightower and District 5 incumbent William Slayton Jr. were unopposed in their bids for re-election at the passing of the filing deadline, they were automatically re-elected.[1]
