Mary Isenhour is the chief of staff for Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf (D). She previously served as his secretary of legislative affairs and has worked for a number of legislative campaign committees, the Democratic Party of Pennsylvania and for her own political consulting firm, Isenhour Rooney Strategies.
Career
Mary Isenhour began her career in politics as a staffer in the Kansas House of Representatives. While there, she "worked with leadership and committee members to develop and implement committee and floor strategies, and she worked on developing legislative strategy and building coalitions that resulted in legislation in numerous areas."[1]
From 2007 to 2011, Isenhour worked as the executive director of the Democratic Party of Pennsylvania.[2] She then started her own consulting firm, in 2010 and worked on a number of Pennsylvania campaigns. She was the Pennsylvania state director for Hillary Clinton's (D) 2008 presidential primary campaign and has worked on a number of campaigns with former Gov. Ed Rendell (D-Pa.).[3]
For the 2014 gubernatorial race in Pennsylvania, Isenhour was a senior strategist to Tom Wolf.[4] After Wolf won the election, Isenhour was named the secretary of legislative affairs, a position she held until July 2015, when she was promoted to chief of staff.[5] When Isenhour became chief of staff, Steve Miskin, a spokesperson for Pennsylvania House Republicans, said, "She [Isenhour] has made strong efforts to meet not only the legislative leaders but members and staff. And when there are issues or concerns, she not only listens but hears you and tries to rectify the problem."[6]
In 2013, Campaigns and Elections named Isenhour one of the top 10 influencers in the state of Pennsylvania. The magazine noted, "Isenhour is an old Pennsylvania hand with ties to the state party, liberal groups and national Democrats. She ran Hillary Clinton's Pennsylvania operation in 2008."[7]
