Malheur County Agriculture Service District Creation (May 2012)
A Malheur County Agriculture Service District Creation measure was on the May 15, 2012 ballot in Malheur County.
This measure was approved
- YES 3,392

- NO 2,678[1]
This measure sought to create a Malheur County Agricultural Education Extension Service District and implement a levy set at a rate of $.23 per $1,000 of assessed property value. The purpose of creating the district will be to give financial support for the Oregon State University’s Malheur Experiment Station and OSU Malheur County Extension Service in the area. The two services have noted decreased budgets due to state financial restraints so this will allow for a permanent tax base for their services. While some residents noted their opposition to more taxes, others stated the importance of the services and the need to further support them.[2]
