Rich Leopold
Rich Leopold is a former Democratic candidate for Governor of Iowa in the 2018 election.
Biography
Rich Leopold was born in Minnesota and spent his early years in the state, attending Minnesota State University and Central States College.[1] Before starting his career as a conservationist, Leopold served in the Army National Guard and earned his master's at Iowa State University.[2][1] He would eventually join the Iowa Environmental Council, becoming that organization's executive director. After a stint in state government, Leopold joined the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service before returning to Iowa to join the Dickinson County Conservation Board. He is the director of Polk County's Conservation Board.[3] On June 7, 2017, Leopold suspended his campaign.[4]

Political career
Iowa Director of National Resources (2007-2010)
Leopold was nominated by then-Governor Chet Culver. He took office in January 2007 and stepped down on August 18, 2010, to accept a position at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.[5]
