This measure was not put on an election ballot |
The Arizona Sanctuary City Act did not appear on the 2010 ballot in the state of Arizona as a legislatively referred state statute.[1]
State Senator Russell Pearce had mentioned the idea of the measure that would prohibit sanctuary cities in the state. A Rasmussen Reports survey showed that out of 1,000 American, 68% oppose sanctuary cities where illegal immigrants would not be arrested unless they commit crimes.
49 percent of those surveyed stated they wanted cities that provide said sanctuary to illegal immigrants in the state, namely Phoenix, to have money cut off from federal and state sources until they changed their approach.[2]
Path to the ballot
The proposed measure was a legislatively referred state statute, which meant the state legislature in that state must have voted to put it before the voters. The measure was not one of the measures approved by the legislature for the ballot. Arizona is one of 22 states that refer statutes to the ballot.[3]
