Campaign themes
2014
Fiero and Hanlon provided the following statement on their campaign website:
“ | It is our belief that the issue of school funding must be addressed head-on. For decades school districts in NJ have ignored the impact of governmental and judicial intervention on the local suburban districts.
We feel that the next 10 years will see school funding shift from property tax to a more equitable distribution of state education monies, augmented by local non-tax revenues such as the current solar initiative that will save taxpayers nearly $500,000 per year. Keeping pressure on legislators is just as important. They must be made to realize the impact programs like Abbott have had on districts like ours and give us the tools suggested by Governor Christie that will allow us to properly manage the finances of our district. But at no time can we lose sight of the purpose of our school system. Our schools educate our children and anchor our community. We must remain ever-vigilant in assuring a quality education while practicing frugality with the money of those that put their trust in us.[5] |
