Bob Heckman is a Republican political consultant and principal at Capital City Partners.[1] He was a senior advisor to Lindsey Graham's 2016 presidential campaign.[2] Heckman founded the Fund for a Conservative Majority in 1979 and worked on a number of presidential campaigns as an expert in coalition building and conservative outreach.
Career
Heckman founded and directed the Fund for a Conservative Majority, an early independent expenditure group, in 1979.[3] As the chair of the organization, Heckman worked to elect conservatives across the country by purchasing advertising space in contested races.[4] Heckman's official bio notes that the fund "helped more than 200 successful Republican candidates for Congress."[1]
In the 2008 presidential election, Heckman worked for John McCain to direct the campaign's conservative outreach. U.S. News and World Report described Heckman's role as "a big-picture adviser who heads up the campaign's efforts to appeal to all conservative groups."[5] Heckman had a similar role for Michele Bachmann's 2012 presidential campaign, where he worked as a senior advisor for coalitions.[6]
Lindsey Graham presidential campaign, 2016
Lindsey Graham announced his presidential campaign on June 1, 2015.[7] Heckman was involved in the campaign as a senior advisor.[2] Heckman had previously supported Graham's election efforts. In Graham's 2014 U.S. Senate race, Heckman hosted a breakfast fundraiser for Graham's candidacy, according to the Sunlight Foundation.[8] Graham withdrew from the race on December 21, 2015, after finding it difficult to win a significant level of support. On the day he dropped out, Real Clear Politics listed Graham with a national polling average of 0.5 percent.[9]
