A City of Hanford Sales Tax, Measure S ballot question was on the November 4, 2014 election ballot for voters in the city of Hanford in Kings County, California. It was defeated.
If approved, Measure S would have authorized the city to increase its sales tax by 1 percent for 20 years. The proposed tax would have been a general tax, which means revenue from it would have gone into the city's general fund and could have been used for any governmental purpose.[1]
This proposed tax increase would have raised the city's total sales tax rate from 7.5 percent - the minimum state-mandated tax rate - to 8.5 percent.
