Colorado lawmaker presses for more information on statewide ballot measures

DENVER, Colorado: One Colorado lawmaker is introducing a bill to add more information on statewide ballot measures listed in the Colorado Blue Book.[1]
State Rep. Louis Court is one of two sponsors of House Bill 11-1035.[2][1] The bill would require a statement before each measure in the Blue Book. The statement would say that language appearing in the ballot title is just a summary drafted by professional staff and not the actual language that goes on the books.[1]
The bill would call for additional statements depending if the measure is referred or initiated.[1] The statement for referred measures would indicate that the measure was debated by the General Assembly and is included on the ballot because it passed by majority vote in the legislature.[1] The statement for initiated measures would tell that the measure's text was drafted by the initiative's proponents and got on the ballot because proponents gathered the required amount of signatures.[1]
The bill received its first hearing in the House State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee on January 20, 2011.[3]
