Daniel J. Hill (Oregon)
Daniel J. Hill is a judge on the 3rd Judicial District in Morrow and Umatilla counties in Oregon. He joined the court in 2005.[1]
He won re-election to a new term without opposition in the primary election on May 17, 2016. Hill's current term expires on January 2, 2023.
Biography
Hill graduated from high school in 1979 in Hermiston, Oregon, and received an A.A. in liberal arts from Blue Mountain Coummunity College in 1981. In 1983, he earned his B.A. in business administration at Oregon State University. In 1986, he received a J.D. from the Willamette University School of Law. In 1997 he graduated from the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College.[2] Hill has served in the Oregon Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Judge Advocate Generals Corps.[3]

Selection method

Judges of the Oregon Supreme Court, Oregon Court of Appeals and Oregon Circuit Courts are all selected in an identical manner. They are chosen in nonpartisan elections to serve six-year terms, after which they must run for re-election if they wish to continue serving.[4]
The chief judges of the circuit courts are appointed by the chief justice of the state supreme court to serve a two-year term.[4]
Qualifications
To serve on the circuit court, a judge must be:[4]
- a U.S. citizen;
- a state resident for at least three years;
- a resident of his or her circuit for at least one year;
- a state bar member; and
- under the age of 75.

Hill was re-elected to the Umatilla County Circuit Court in 2010 after running unopposed. He won with 99.06 percent of the vote.[5]
