David Carlson (Minnesota)
David Carlson was a 2014 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. Senate from Minnesota.[1] Carlson lost to Mike McFadden in the Republican primary on August 12, 2014.[2]
Carlson was previously a 2012 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. Senate from Minnesota.
Biography
Carlson was born and raised in St. Paul, graduating from Johnson High School. Upon graduation, he took courses towards a political science and history degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. In 2000, he worked for Governor Jesse Ventura. Two years later, he worked in the Business Services Division for then-Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer. In 2003, Carlson left college and enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he served three combat tours in Iraq. In 2010, he graduated from the University of Minnesota with his B.A. In 2010, he also founded Blue Diamond Strategies, which specializes in threat assessment, risk management, and consulting. He pursued his M.A. in Security Strategies at the University of Minnesota.[3]

Carlson ran in the 2014 election for the U.S. Senate, to represent Minnesota. Carlson sought the Republican nomination in the primary on August 12, 2014, but was defeated by Mike McFadden.[2]
